Noise Rules!

Max bike noise allowed during a static test is 92 dB
Why do I need to compy with noise rules / restrictions?
The long and the short of it is that like many other tracks, due to noise issues, Crail was almost shut down! (there was a year of no bikes during that time). After a lot of work by the club, an agreement was reached with the local council to reduce noise to be able to run supermotos at the track – that means that we MUST run within these set restrictions.
The following is an extract from the 2009 Race Procedure Sheet (see here) which covers all Championship Conditions for ESKC Scottish Supermoto 2009:
Noise regulations; will be strictly adhered to and random noise checks will take place after each practice / race and anyone found to be in breach of these rules will score zero points and will not be allowed to participate in the meeting. They can come to the next meeting and noise test again etc and race if they comply, a second offence will see exclusion from the series. Noise rules will be as set down by the club.
All bikes must comply with the club noise regulations in order to take part in any motorcycle event at Crail. This is a condition of ESKC membership and race entry. This rule will be enforced at all meetings and/or practice sessions. Any rider found on the track with a bike out with these limits will be asked to leave and will have their membership revoked.
The max noise allowed during a static test is 92 dB and on the track measured as per regulations must be below 100 dB.
The club will endeavour to provide a small number of dB Dawgs available for sale although these will be one size and may not fit your model. They will be available to hire on a first come first serve basis; once the allocation is gone, it’s gone. It is the sole responsibility of the rider to ensure his/her bike is below the limits. dB Dawgs have been tested by the club and found to be the easiest way to cut noise to below the required limits.
Noise Restrictions & dB Dawg
Where can I find the manuacturer’s info the dB Dawg?
See the Ignition Racing PDF info sheet – click here – page 8 onwards.
Tuning with the dB Dawg
Installing the dB Dawg on some bikes tend to run a little rich which may cause a slight loss of power on the low end. Most riders leave the tuning alone and are happy how the bike runs. While some riders are dropping the needle one position and making some fuel screw adjustments to bring the performance up.
Which DB Dawg do I buy to fit my bike?
Just measure the internal bore of your tail pipe outlet from side to side across the middle (in inches) then check with the available sizes to see what size insert you need. A wide range of bike / pipe specific dB Dawg’s are now available, some of which are “internal” fit and much neater and more secure.
