This mysterious "dB Dawg" - what is it? - why do you need one?
Why do I need to fit a dB Dawg to ride at Crail ?
The long and the short of it is that like many other tracks, due to noise issues, Crail was almost shut down! After a lot of work by the club, an agreement was reached with the local council to reduce noise to be able to run supermotos at the track - that means that dB Dawgs MUST be fitted by ALL 4 stroke bikes (2 strokes are exempt from the dB Dawg rule as long as they test at under 92dB). It doesn't matter how quiet your 4 stroke is - a dB Dawg must be fitted AND your bike must test at or under 92 dB. Noise testing is available in advance of meetings by special arrangement - contact a committee member for details or post on the forum.

How does the dB Dawg work?
Air will take the path of least resistance, but sound needs to hit something to cancel it out. The dB Dawg insert is designed in such a way (with the flat end and angled corners) that when the sound waves hit the end of the insert some of them cancel out and others bounce back into the packing of the muffler which are also cancelled out - this is also why you may need to replace the packing more frequently. The length of the shaft and the outlet hole are all exact calculations for maximum noise reduction and minimum power loss. Altering the insert in anyway will render it less if not totally ineffective.
Tuning with the dB Dawg
Installing the dB Dawg on some bikes tend to run a little rich which may cause a slight loss of power on the low end. Most riders leave the tuning alone and are happy how the bike runs. While some riders are dropping the needle one position and making some fuel screw adjustments to bring the performance up.
Which DB Dawg do I buy to fit my bike?
Just measure the internal bore of your tail pipe outlet from side to side across the middle (in inches) then check with the available sizes to see what size insert you need - see the mxbits store website or call them - see below.
